Keep Your Needle From Sliding

We’ve all been there – you’re hand sewing something and you’re in the zone when all of a sudden your needle slips right off of the thread. With this neat trick, you’ll secure a knot at the base of the needle to ensure you can finish your sewing with the needle and thread intact! Start by threading the needle like normal and then sticking the needle into a section of the thread a few inches down the working thread. Move the working thread up, and insert the needle one more time. Finally, pull the needle and thread end all the way through to make a not. Tug on the working thread to slide the knot up to the base of the needle.

Sew A Straight Line Every Time

When machine sewing, it can be quite difficult to sew a perfectly straight line. There are a few tools that can help you, such as adding feed dogs to your machine, but what if you don’t want to spend more money? There’s an easy fix! If you have an elastic band that will fit around your sewing machine, go ahead and place it so the flat end is to the right of your thread. You can also put a piece of masking tape or colored tape. These lines will act as a guide to keep your lines straight. If you line up your fabric with the tape, you’ll be sure to sew a straight line every time!
