A Strong, biracial American Woman…with ties to the Tudors

Markle was born on August 4, 1981, in Los Angeles, CA to a Caucasian father and an African-American mother. Markle is proud of her mixed-race heritage and describes herself as “a strong, confident, mixed-race woman.

Her mother, Doria Radlan, is a social worker, psychotherapist and yoga instructor. Her father — of German, Dutch, English, Irish and Scottish descent — is an Emmy award-winning Hollywood set director whose credits include the small-screen hit Married … with Children — the set of which Markle visited often in her youth.

Yet despite her American heritage, Markle’s family lineage traces directly back to the Tudors and Plantagenets of British War-of-the-Roses lore. In fact, British ancestry experts recently reported that one of Markle’s relatives was actually beheaded at the order of none other than Henry VIII.
