How To Shop The Thrift Store Like An Interior Designer

Discover unexpected gems at your local thrift store!

Who doesn’t love finding great deals at the thrift store? Whether it’s a piece of furniture that can easily be fixed up, or a pair of shoes just out of the box for pennies on the dollar, it’s always an adventure to look for great deals!

Sometimes, however, the best deals come in unexpected packages. When it comes to getting the most out of your local thrift store, you have to think about the potential of some items and know what is worth restoring and what isn’t.

Take the cutting board in the above picture, for instance. At first, you’d probably pass this up thinking it is a little outdated and grimy. However, you can simply sand the paint right off and oil the wood to restore it! Then, you can decorate the cutting board to make a fun serving tray or a statement piece in the kitchen.

Another great thing to look for at thrift stores are vases and bowls. Take this fish bowl, for example. There are always old fish bowls available at thrift stores (poor, homeless fish!), so you can easily make this DIY project for under $10.

Simply clean out the bowl, make a stencil and trace it out onto MDF board and cut it out. Spray paint the board and snap the pieces together to make a classy terrarium. Similar products sell in high-end furniture stores for around $100!
