Back To Basics: Tips On Basting Your First Quilt

Take a refresher course on basting and learn some new tips for easy sewing!

Whether you’re working on your first quilt or your 100th quilt, everyone can appreciate a refresher course on some of the basics of quilting. This video provides a great tutorial that is easy to understand and follow along with for any first-time quilters out there, while also giving the more experienced quilter some helpful tips they might not have thought of before.

For example, after getting your layers in order, you’ll need to pin everything down. They use safety pins in the video below that will be removed as you sew. But how many should you put on your quilt? You don’t want to put too few and have it all come apart as you’re quilting, but you don’t want to have so many that it becomes cumbersome to remove every inch or so. A good general rule of thumb is to place pins a palm width apart.
