Seven “3D Wall Paintings” So Realistic You’d Have To Touch To Understand.
The more you look, the more detail you see! Simply breathtaking!
Art has the power to take us places we’ve never been before, or have only imagined in our dreams. That’s exactly what the murals of artist John Pugh do for everyone interacting with them in person. For us, we just have images, but keep in mind these murals are HUGE! Entire sides of buildings or walls within houses become the canvases upon which Pugh lays out his optical illusions into other worlds.
You can see more of his work here, but for now, enjoy these 7 incredible works below.
1. “Extended Family” – Juvenile Hall Vistors Lobby – Sacracmento, CA
This piece entitled “Extended Family” was commissioned by the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission in 2007.
Before John and his team started “Extended Family” mural… talk about perspective!
2. “Academe” – Taylor Hall, Chico State University, CA
This piece was Pugh’s first major commission, and the turning point in his career.
3. “Mural Sans Murus” – Sacramento, CA
I don’t know about you, but I still can’t figure out how in the world he did this one!
Seriously, I can’t believe this is a painting!
A little bit closer, for those who are still skeptical
4. “Mana Nalu” – Honolulu, HI
Mana Nalu means “power of the wave.” This piece required the help of 14 other artists because of its scale.
Check out what the building looked like before in the bottom right of this photo.
I thought the people were real too…
