Now, you may be wondering why you need 4 yards of backing material – isn’t that a bit much? But as Jenny reminds us we have to go by the width of the quilt. In this case, our quilt is 61 inches, so 2 yards of fabric would be 72 inches, and since we pieced horizontally and the fabric is only 40 inches in length, you have to add an extra piece.
