We get it; winter can drag on for so long. We’re ready for some sunshine and warm weather! But alas, there are still at least few weeks of winter around here. Luckily for us, there are a few tried and true ways to fight the winter blues. Check out the video below and see for yourself! Even better, make a few of these winter survival kits and send them out to friends and family.

Headband (Exercise): Experts agree that 20-30 minutes of cardio 5-7 days a week contributes to mood elevation. You don’t have to run a marathon, even just getting out and walking around the block a few times can really change your mood!

Walnuts: In moderation, walnuts are a great source of protein and omega 3 fatty acids, which have been proven to contribute to overall brain health.

Green Tea: The health benefits of green tea have been well documented. When it comes to depression, drinking green tea containing theanine helps increase certain brain waves that contribute to relaxation and mood elevation.

Milk: Dairy is a great source for vitamin D and calcium, both are major contributers to brain health.

Dog Treats: Because animals make everything better!

Dark Chocolate: Not only is it good to treat yourself every once in a while, dark chocolate actually is packed full of antioxidents, iron, and fiber. Win-win!

Essential Oils: Bergamot oil has been shown to improve energy by increasing blood flow. Lavender is also a popular choice for fighting depression and anxiety as it has a calming effect. Other suggested oils for mood boosts and relaxation are chamomile and ylang ylang.

Full Spectrum Light Bulb: While these light bulbs may not have a direct and instant effect on your mood, using these in your office or around the house will simulate a more natural sunlight instead of harsh fluorescents or bright LED lights.

Hot Chocolate Mix: If you’re stuck inside because of bad weather or a cold, you might as well have some fun! Go ahead and binge on your favorite Netflix show with some hot chocolate – as long as you make an effort to be active other days of the week, it’s ok to embrace the tendancy to stay in and be lazy every now and then!
