The holidays are quickly approaching, and you know what that means – cooking and hosting a feast for friends and family. Maybe your extended family switches up years for who hosts Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners and this is your year, or maybe you always have it at your place and invite the gang over. Either way, we’re sure you can still use all the help you can get when it comes to hosting the perfect dinner. This list has tips and tricks from meal prep to decor and everything in between! Go ahead and pick up a few new tricks to try out this holiday season.

Easy Peel Potatoes

Think of how much time is wasted peeling potatoes! Not to mention the frustration and the hand-cramps that come along with the undesireable task. Instead, go ahead and boil the potatoes with the skin on, and then shock them in a bowl of ice water as soon as they are done. You’ll be amazed at how easily the skin peels right off!

More Room In The Fridge

We all know the struggle of trying to find space in the fridge for all of the side dishes you’ve prepped the night before or morning of your big dinner. Instead of taking up a lot of room with casserole dishes and tupperware, place what you can in Ziplock baggies. You might be surprised how much space you end up saving!

Steam Veggies In Dishwasher

This may seem like an odd method, but it really works! Simply place your veggies in a mason jar with some water. Season like you normally would, and then place the sealed jar in the dishwaser. You can do this with all of your veggies and run a cycle on high heat, or simply toss a few jars into a load of dishes. The sealed jar will prevent any soap from getting inside the jar.

Easy Table Decor

If you’ve ever hosted a holiday dinner, then you know food is only half of what is expected of you. Ok, maybe a little more than half, but still. Decorations and ambiance are another layer that adds to the full holiday meal experience. Luckily for you, it doesn’t have to be difficult! Cut up some paper towel or toilet paper rolls and hot glue strips of fabric over the rings of cardboard. Finish off with a twine bow and you’ll have some beautiful napkin holders. You can also make individualized plate settings by glueing leaves and the name of the person to a toothpick and sticking it into a wine cork.

Take Home Boxes

Save the hassel of finding matching lids and Tupperware containers with this nifty idea. Grab some paper to-go containers and decorate with stickers. Use them as take home boxes and never worry about tracking down your Tupperware again! Plus, you can have the kiddos decorate the boxes for even more family fun.
