I am a big fan of cruising Instagram and the internet at large for vintage anything and everything. In fact, I love few things more than spending an hour or three on a Saturday scrolling through links upon links filled with all the clothing, furniture, toys, and vintage homes I’ll probably never be able to afford.

It’s like modern-day window shopping!

One of my favorite vintage home accounts is @circahouses on Instagram. For me, there’s just something so compelling about being able to easily look at all homes throughout the United States that predate anyone who is currently alive in this country. Maybe it’s weird, but it’s a hobby that I’m glad to have.

These 15 vintage homes all have one thing in common: They are yellow, and they’re pretty bright and cheery to boot.

Because if there’s something I love more than spending my time looking through the internet, it’s spending my time looking through the internet with a theme in mind.

1884 Victorian: $394,900

https://www.instagram.com/p/B55q51BA5QV/

The listing for this home in Michigan makes my heart sing: “Home features wood plank floors, unpainted trim, leaded stained glass, glass doorknobs, tall ceilings on the main level and antique light fixtures. The master suite is a 2011 main floor addition with ensuite bathroom including heated flooring, heated towel rack and Mr. Steam walk-in shower separate from iron claw-foot tub. The large gourmet eat-in kitchen features granite countertops, double wall ovens, limestone hood, walk-in pantry and center island lit with chandeliers.”

I think “lit with chandeliers” is one of my favorite phrases in the English language.

Super Fancy Home in Minnesota: $1,650,000

https://www.instagram.com/p/B5yXhjxAfrz/

I guess you could argue that parts of this home in Minnesota aren’t quite yellow, but why would you want to? “New gourmet kitchen sits in the heart of the home, designed to allow an open feel to the adjacent living spaces. On the third floor there is a expansive recreation room with built-in wiring for a home theater and complete with a secondary kitchen. Some of the finer details you’ll want to fully appreciate include the craftsmanship of the restored woodwork, windows, 2 fireplaces, tile work, cabinetry, lighting, venetian plaster, hand stenciling & so much more. There is a new custom designed and built garage with studio space above.”

Victorian Home: $224,900

This home in Maryland is actually my favorite on the list, but I can’t explain why. I kind of think it’s just because of that tiny tree in front? “Historic Emmitsburg House c.1882 is a charming Victorian home in the historic district of Emmitsburg Maryland with a large country kitchen, spacious rooms, lush gardens and a carriage house. Featuring residential/commercial use, original hardware, wood floors, moldings and 2 story side ‘sleeping’ porches, a Victorian bay window in the master bedroom and lots of natural light from the many large windows, this is a home of rare & beautiful distinction, close to Gettysburg, Baltimore & DC, yet a world away.”

“Historically Significant” Home: $695,000

https://www.instagram.com/p/B5ic0TqAk-R/

Another swing and a hit for Maryland! I couldn’t figure out what makes this home historically significant other than that it was built on land purchased in 1713. “This is a gorgeous, historically significant 4.5 acre estate with modern amenities, woods & creek in Charles County, close to Baltimore & DC. The house includes a modern addition designed to blend beautifully with the 18th century original structure and is a perfect melding of modern & historic, with a gourmet kitchen, 4 full BA’s, powder room, in ground pool, brick patios, and original wood floors and fireplaces. This is a home of rare and beautiful distinction.”

Spa-Turned-Home: $799,000

https://www.instagram.com/p/B5iuokDgX2M/

New Jersey is jumping in the fray, and I kind of love. I’m thinking I could put my kid and all the pets in that separate home area, right? “Meticulously updated while preserving its classic ethos, Heath House Hotel and Spa, with history dating back to 1810, was one of Schooley’s Mt Springs’ famous resorts. The result is a marriage of Old World and New: original post and beam construction and intimate formal rooms seamlessly combine with amenities demanded by today’s gracious lifestyle, including an updated gourmet kitchen, stunning living room with wood burning fireplace and antique tapestry wall, spacious master suite, bonus room with kitchenette. Boasting views across the house and an earthy beamed ceiling, the family room is primed for contemporary comfortable living, spilling out through french doors to the veranda, fireside patio, level lawn and pool sweeping across 4.74 private acres.”

Victorian: $335,000

https://www.instagram.com/p/B5iRUnMAtr6/

OK, this cutie pie home in Maryland is my second favorite. This is exactly the kind of house I always swoon over. I can’t help myself. “Step back in time with this stately Victorian, the former home of Rockland businessman A.C. McLoon. From the welcoming foyer and formal dining room to the library with its built-in safe, period details remain throughout. The 12-room home showcases the quality with which it was built yet retains a warm atmosphere. Generously proportioned, light-filled rooms offer areas in which to congregate or relax alone. Located in Rockland’s historic district, a short walk to the library, harbor, and Main Street, this lovely home sits on a large lot full of gardens and has frontage on two streets …. a perfect location for a large in-town home or B&B.”

Food Critic Home: $239,500

https://www.instagram.com/p/B5dXPpxgIcU/

This home in Mississippi is apparently notable for being the former home of food critic Craig Claiborne. I didn’t know who that was, but a little research revealed this was definitely my loss. Craig had a long and successful career as a food critic with the New York Times, and he also wrote more than 20 books. Plus his house is pretty cute!

Queen Anne Country Home: $279,000

https://www.instagram.com/p/B5Q06RIg2X1/

This one is my third favorite. I love the color of the home (which maybe skews a little green, but I see yellow!), the yard, and even the name of the town in Arkansas where the home can be found (Prairie Grove). I would probably pretend I lived in an episode of Little House on the Prairie if I lived here, despite the fact that this is definitely not a prairie.

Greek Revival Stone Home: $475,000

https://www.instagram.com/p/B5MGwhEg_QP/

This house is pretty famous in Wisconsin. The Moses Strong House “is one of Mineral Point’s most recognized architectural landmarks. Featuring 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, this home combines vintage charm with all the comforts of modern living. Large windows, period lighting fixtures and 2 fireplaces/gas stoves fill this inviting home with light and warmth. A beautiful patio garden overlooks a pond water feature. Currently an owner-occupied guest house, this home would be well suited for a single family with ample space for 1-2 in-law apartments or rental units. Architecture is Greek Revival.”

Mustard House: $250,000

https://www.instagram.com/p/B5Onkchgnul/

The listing for this New York home says it’s a great location. You’ll have to take their word for it, because I’ve never been there. “Antique historic home is known as ‘the Mustard House’. Showcase your antique collection as it was meant to be! Features include wide plank floors, exposed beams, fireplace with built-ins, eyebrow windows, & more. Interior offers a spacious floor plan w/four bedrooms & two baths. Functional kitchen ready for your personal touch! Exterior offers an absolutely AMAZING yard of park-like grounds.”

Dutch Colonial: $575,000

Hiiii, this is such a cute house in New Jersey. I think it’s a little too cute for me — unless someone wants to buy it and give it to me for free — but it’s just flat-out adorable. “Old world charm living East of the Canal. This house in Wisconsin feels quite stately and serious, but also like you could host a bunch of fabulous parties there. “Restored Glory- Owners of this amazing Cream City Brick Victorian sparred no expense returning this famous Elkhorn home to its original grandeur. Seriously. “PRIVATE country setting yet sited at the gateway of the Monadnock region, Cricket Hill Farm is just a short drive to area shopping and dining. Hudson River Home: $1,850,000

https://www.instagram.com/p/B3sq70YgBGt/

OK, so: This home costs over a million dollars, and in fact the price is closer to $2 million, but you get the Hudson River right in your backyard! So that evens out, right? “On the banks of the Hudson River you will find your own peaceful, private paradise. One-of-a-kind estate tucked away on .75 private riverfront acres. This lovely home is the epitome of understated grace and offers breathtaking views of the river and bridge from every room. Stunning multi-tiered gardens and lawns lead to 174 feet of shoreline. Grand Italianate: $375,000

https://www.instagram.com/p/B3kxgvOASYZ/

This home is fancy! It’s also in Maine, which is my favorite state even though I have never been there. I like this home so much that I’m considering starting a change jar devoted just to buying it. I’m sure it won’t take too long! “Grand Italianate complete with Mansard roof and Quoin detailing. Amazing spaces with room for everyone. Situated in the center of town on 2 acres with frontage on Marsh Stream – this property is LUSCIOUS. Large yard with gardens and above ground pool.
