Tomatoes Are Not From Italy
Contrary to popular belief, tomatoes are not from Italy, originally. They were actually first cultivated by the Aztecs and Incas in the Andes, back in 700 A.D.
Tomatoes Weren’t Always Red
The very first tomatoes weren’t the iconic red we know today – in fact, they were small and yellow. The Italian word for the first tomatoes brought to Europe was pomi d’oro, which means, “yellow apple.”
