Do you ever wonder why there are little holes in airplane windows? Or what the tab on the end of your measuring tape does? We’ve got the answers to those questions and more in this list below! You’d be surprised at how many everyday objects have unique and helpful purposes!

Holes In Airplane Windows

You may have noticed that tiny hole in the bottom of most airplane windows. Each window is made up of three panes – the outer, the middle, and the inner pane – sometimes referred to as the “smudge” pane). The tiny hole is found in the middle pane. It helps to normalize the air pressure between the outside of the plane and inside the cabin. It also helps the windows from fogging and freezing over. The air at cruising altitude can get as low as negative 70 degrees!

Holes In Converse

If you’ve ever owned a pair of the ever popular Converse shoes, you’ve probably noticed the two eyelets on the side. Aside from a fun aesthetic, do they actually do anything? Yes! First, they allow air flow so your feet are comfortable. They also allow for a special kind of lacing – bar lacing. This is when you lace your shoes like normal, but put the laces through the last holes, run them through the holes on the side. When you tighten the laces, the shoe will tighten around your foot!

That hole in your spaghettis spoon actually is the perfect single serving of spaghetti. Genius!

The Metal Tab At The End Of Your Tape Measurer

The edge of the tab is usually serrated. This is to help score softer surfaces like drywall. The little tab is also useful to hook onto nails or screws to get a more accurate measurement.
