5. Rock & Roll’s First Great Wild Man

On March 18th, 1958, Jerry Lee Lewis showed the world why he was nicknamed “The Killer.” On that day’s show, Lewis — who was at the peak of his career — performed three songs: “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Breathless,” and “Great Balls of Fire.” Nothing was more memorable than the latter, and you can see from the following performance why “Great Balls of Fire” sold one million copies in its first ten days.
