Let’s face it – writers have a bit of a reputation. From drinking (coffee or the harder stuff) to depression, and even the occasional agoraphobic tendencies, writers are definitely a unique group of people. Sure, some of these stereotypes are just that – cliché and outdated. But even I have to admit that there were a few of these that really hit the nail on the head for me!

Of course, some of these are just plain silly! For example, the myth that all published writers are somehow rich? Puh-lease! Not even close. It takes a lot of hard work and determination to get published, but that’s no guarantee of a six-figure paycheck.

While I don’t agree with everything here on this list, it is fun to take a step back for a moment or two and consider some of the things society thinks about us writers! Some of these misconceptions are just downright hilarious. Of course, like all staerotypes, these are just vague observations. You may not identify with any of these, and that doesn’t make you any more or less of a writer than anyone else.

The only thing that qualifies you as a writer is if you’re writing. Yup. It’s really a no-brainer. So go ahead and take a little break from your current project and laugh with us as we see some of the writing myths busted!
