Do You Know What This Hole Is For? Genius!

These tape measure hacks are brilliant!

The tape measure is one of the craftsman’s most trusted tools in the workshop. You probably have a few of these floating around the workshop, but you definitely prefer one over the others. I bet you think you know everything there is to know about this tool, but trust me, these hacks are real game-changers!

No matter what kind of tape measure you use – plastic, metal, 12 foot, 6 foot, etc., all tape measures share these 4 qualities. You may have thought that hole at the end of the hook was just a design choice, but in reality, it’s a slot for a nail or screw to fit! This way, if you don’t have anyone to hold the other end of the tape measure, you can rest it on a nail.

One of the other really cool features of a tape measure are the hook screws. You may have thought these slightly loose screws didn’t mean much, but if you’ll notice the first inch of your tape measure is slightly shorter than the second inch. In fact, it’s 1/16th of an inch shorter. This is to account for the hook. If, but chance, you’re doing an outside measurement, you can pull the tape measure taught, and the loose screws create a gap that makes up for the 1/16th of an inch.
