When a tiny Scottish book club mentioned a discussion of one of J.K. Rowling’s books over Twitter, the author unexpectedly responded. The adorable exchange included the book club bribing her with cake to get her to come. To everyone’s surprise, the kindhearted “Harry Potter” author made it to the meeting in a gesture her book club fans are sure to keep in their hearts for years to come. The Orkney Library announced on its Twitter account that there would be a discussion on “The Cuckoo’s Calling,” a mystery novel that Rowling wrote under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. The author unexpectedly replied to the tweet, asking about the best mode of travel to get to the library. Expressing a genuine desire to attend the meeting, she kept the conversation going under the guise that Robert Galbraith was a separate author. At one point, the Orkney Library said, “Perhaps we should add that there will be cake” and asked if Rowling preferred tea or coffee.

Rowling gave her and Galbraiths’ favorite cakes, with hers being lemon drizzle. The library continued to post progress on the meeting, including how the cake situation was coming along. On the day of the meeting, Rowling’s small group of fans were delighted when she kept her word and showed up. Rowling got a picture with the book club and a tour of the library, showing utmost humility and kindness. Stewart Bain, the library assistant who sent out the tweets, said “I think it’s fantastic that she came all the way here to see us and show the level of support and passion that she has for her readers,” according to Mic. The fact that J.K. Rowling took time out of her busy schedule to give Orkney residents an incredible story to tell shows just what kind of person she is. If every celebrity was as thoughtful as Rowling, the world would be a pretty awesome place.
