How To Make A Lumberjack Cake

It’s easier than you think!

We often think of lumberjacks as sitting around, enjoying a hearty meal before heading off into the forest for a day of work. One thing we usually don’t consider is those burly men enjoying a nice slice of cake, but they might, it if was lumberjack cake. In fact, I think everyone would love it.

Fortunately, you don’t have to head off to the forests of the northwest to enjoy a slice of lumberjack cake. You can make it for yourself, and it isn’t as hard as you might think.

The cake directions are clearly spelled out on the Cookies, Cupcakes and Cardio YouTube channel and you are going to want to try this one for yourself. It features the print of the autumn season, plaid, and its delicious!

The cake is a beautiful creation but don’t let that frighten you. It’s surprisingly easy to make if you follow the tutorial provided by Jenn Johns. It doesn’t even require many ingredients! Here is how to get started:

Ingredients

1. Four round pre-made vanilla cakes (dyed red, black, and burgundy)

2. Chocolate and vanilla buttercream

3. Melted dark chocolate

4. Flake bars

You can take things to the next level by making the vanilla cakes from scratch. Johns also has a homemade vanilla cake tutorial you can use as well.

She even tells you how to frost a cake properly, just in case it is your ‘first rodeo’.

After gathering the materials, its time to get started. The video shows you the details but here is a summary for reference:

Directions:

1. Cut the dyed vanilla cakes into four rings.

2. Alternate the black and burgundy rings and the red and burgundy rings to equal four different cake layers.

3. Attach cake layers to a cake board and fill each layer with black buttercream

4. Cover the top of the stacked cake with tan buttercream.

5. Use a large serving fork to etch in the rings of the cake. Fill in the lines with chocolate buttercream.

5. Cover the sides with chocolate buttercream.

6. Trim Flake bars to the same height as the cake, and place around each side of the cake.

All that is left is to slice and enjoy.

It does take some baking skills to make the lumberjack cake but it isn’t difficult to do. When you are finished, you will taste the sweet taste of victory (and a plaid cake).

Johns recommends that the cake be kept in a container in the refrigerator. She also recommends eating it within 2 or 3 days. I don’t see that being a problem.
