They recently sold at an auction for $100,000!
After the assassination of President John F. Kennedy nearly 52 years ago, the limousine he was riding in was sent to Ohio to be refurbished. Amongst the modifications — which included a new paint job and bullet-proof exterior — were new license plates.
The FBI agent who installed the new plates decided to throw out the old one. That is when Mr. Hess, the owner of the company that customized the limousine, decided to retrieve them. We can’t really blame him; they’re a priceless memento of a presidency we wish had been longer.
Since then, the license plates have been stored in a kitchen drawer at Mr. Hess’s daughter’s house, just waiting to be found and appreciated. Recently, she decided to sell them at an auction, where they fetched a beautiful grand total of $100,000. Sounds like a good move to us! We’ll bet she’s glad her father kept them now!
