Interesting Bookshelves Are So Easy To Make When You Do Them Like This!

Follow these tips to help turn wasted space into an interior-decoration wonder!

Ah, bookshelves! So simple! So handy! Like the books they contain, they never run out of batteries and are still useful even when damaged (take that, e-readers). Bookshelves can be a home-owner’s best friend if you utilize the space right. Many people aren’t sure what to do with bookshelves, especially if they don’t have an over-abundance of books available for display. We highly recommend just buying more books, but if that’s not your style, there are other options. Many people like to display small knick-knacks or family photos on book shelves. While we agree that it’s a fine way to go, we mostly find that it makes for a lot of dusting. Here are some other ways you can decorate your bookshelves to make them fun, beautiful, and even functional if you so desire!

If you are an avid collector, why not use your bookshelves to display the collection you take great pride in? If you do happen to have a collection of books, even a small one, you can incorporate your books and your collection together. Stack the books and place decorative items atop the books. Or, use heavier decorative items as book ends. Use your imagination: perhaps you have a collection of old model cars and a collection of books about older cars. Display them together for a fun conversation piece.

For an added fun and decorative element, you can add mirrors behind built-in book shelves. Mirrors always make a room look bigger, open up the space and help to reflect light. Adding mirrors behind your bookshelves will help make your shelving the focal point of the room.

If your shelves are adjustable, change the shelving height to add some dimension and allow you to accommodate bigger books or decorative items. Plus, shelving at different heights help to give the room an asymmetrical look. Also, placing larger baskets along the shelving provides you the opportunity to use the space for storage.

When it comes to decorating, there’s truly no “right” or “wrong” way of doing things. The general idea of decorating is to have fun and to bring your personality out while doing it.
