3 No-Carve Ways To Decorate With Pumpkins This Fall!

These crafts are so cute and they last all season!

Fall is here, and we’re more than ready to get our autumn DIY projects underway. When we think of fall, one word comes to mind: pumpkins! Whether it’s pumpkin spice lattes or carving pumpkins with the kiddos, nothing rings in the fall season quite like pumpkins. Unfortunately, live pumpkins don’t last very long, and carved pumpkins have even less of a shelf-life. Never fear! We have a few fun and creative ways to decorate with fake pumpkins around the house. These crafts are so cute and they last all season!

Pumpkin Succulent Planter

Who doesn’t love succulents? They are fun, easy to maintain, and they add a splash of bright green to any room! For this project, you’ll need a styrofoam pumpkin, an X-acto knife, Spanish moss, and fake succulents. This project works for live succulents too, you’ll just need some soil instead of the Spanish moss.

First, poke holes around the outside rim of the pumpkin. Then, cut from hole to hole using the X-acto knife. Continue working to remove the stem. If you are using real succulents, dig the hole inside of the pumpkin a little deeper and then spray paint the pumpkin with a waterproof sealant.

Next, place Spanish moss and fake succulents inside of the hole you just carved, or put in soil and plant the succulents, spraying them with water after they have been planted.

Studded Pumpkin

This project could not be easier. All you need is a foam pumpkin and some thumbtacks. You can always spray paint your pumpkin and/or your thumbtacks to get different variations of this project. Simply put the thumbtacks into the pumpkin, following the lines already carved out. Another variation for this DIY would be to make a design with the thumbtacks or put the first letter of your last name on the pumpkin. Either way, we think you’ll agree this easy DIY turned out great!

Fabric Pumpkin

If you’re going for more of a rustic or farmhouse look, we’ve got you covered! These fabric pumpkins are great on so many levels. Not only are they easy to make, but you can use so many different and fun kinds of fabric to fit your style!

First, fold the fabric, right sides together, and make a tube. You can either sew or hot glue the fabric together. Then, use a running stitch at one end and sinch the sides together, securing it with a knot.

Then, turn the fabric right=side out and begin stuffing it with cotton or other material. This is a great way to get rid of fabric scraps – just use them for stuffing! Once you’re done, sew another running stitch at the end, sinch, and tie a knot to secure.

Finally, take some twine and wrap it around the pumpkin from top to bottom to create the “ridges.” Do this a few times, tie the string off, and then glue a branch or a cinnamon stick to the top for the stem.
