10 Crochet Hacks I Wish I knew About Sooner!

Where have these hacks been all my life?!

How To Make A Center Pull Yarn Ball

There’s no need for fancy equipment here, just an empty paper towel roll or toilet paper roll and your yarn of choice! 1. Put at least 6 inches of yarn in the center of the paper towel roll and hold the end of the yarn to the side of roll with your thumb. 2. Begin winding the yarn perpendicularly around the tube. Go slowly with the first few wraps, these will lock in the yarn tail that you were holding down with your thumb. 3. Once you have a few wraps established so the yarn is secure on the tube (about 10 wraps) begin winding the yarn around the tube at an angle. 4. Once you have another 10 wraps at an angle, turn the tube 1/4 turn and begin wrapping again at the same angle. 5. After you have these two sets of wraps done, you can begin to slowly turn the tube while you continue to wrap. This will form a more uniform ball than if you continue to wrap multiple times in the same place. 6. When the yarn is gone, simple fish the tail out of the tube and hold it over the edge of the yarn ball while pulling the yarn off the tube!

Make Patterns Easy To Follow

Sometimes following an online pattern can be confusing and you lose your place or lose the website if you’re working on a project that may take a while to complete! It’s well worth the effort to print out the pattern and put it in a plastic sheet protector. That way, you can mark off rows as you go with a dry erase marker and then when you’re done, keep the pattern in a folder or binder so you can keep a record of projects you’ve completed. You can also copy patterns over to a spreadsheet before printing. This makes it easy to see which step you’re at and you can make the text larger if you need to!

How To Keep Yarn Organized

There are several ways to keep yarn organized. If your yarn pile looks anything like mine then you need all the help you can get! I often buy yarn for a specific pattern, and then throw it in the yarn pile and promptly forget why I got it n the first place. One of my favorite organization tips is to print out the pattern and store it in a large ziplock bag (or any other see-through bag) along with the yarn. That way, when you’re looking for your next project, you’ll see that you have serval options with yarn already included! It’s like a real-life Pinterest board.

The Best Way To Travel With Crochet

If you’re on a road trip, chances are, you’re going to want to bring your crochet project with you. The best way to travel with yarn is by using a to go cup with a dome lid. Rinse it out, put your yarn in and thread the center-pull yarn strand through the hole in the cup! It fits inside a cup holder and won’t get lost or tangled!
