Why Banned Books Are Great Reads

If it’s been banned, it’s probably a really good read!

Banned Books Week was first created in 1982 in response to an increase in the number of books banned or challenged in schools and libraries. The American Library Association tracks banned or challenged books and maintains an annual list of texts that have been deemed “inappropriate” in some way. Books have been banned for content in the following areas: unsuitable for age group, explicit language, violence, sexual content, racism, religion, or politics. Beloved children’s books, young adult, classic and modern, fiction and nonfiction – none of these genres are free from censorship.

Banned Books Week is usually celebrated during the last week of September, but banned books are available year round! This is a perfect place to find your next great read.
