Just because you have a small space, doesn’t mean you can’t have a beautiful garden supplying you with delicious fruits and vegetables. The following tips will help you have a flourishing garden regardless of space!

Sunlight

More than just your space constraints, you need to keep in mind how much sun you’ll be getting in your available space and picking plants that will flourish within those constraints. If you’re hoping for tomatoes or cucumbers, make sure you have ample sunlight!

Containers

Whether it be a vertical system, hanging baskets, or pots, figure out what will work best for your space. With herbs and green onions, you can get away with smaller planters but for some larger plants, you’re better off getting at least a 5 gallon planter.

The Dirt

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can make your own potting soil, but I’d recommend picking some up from your local garden shop and mixing in your own compost.

Water

Obviously your plants will need to be watered but as to how much will vary by climate, pot size and weather. Make sure your pots have a drainage system. A great idea is to drill a few holes in the bottom of the pot and then put in some pebbles.
