5 DIYs For Your Perfect Home Gym

All of your home gym necessities can be DIYed!

DIY Plyo Box

Plyo (or plyometric boxes) may be most known for their appearance in CrossFit gyms, but don’t let that scare you away from using them in your own workouts. Plyo boxes are great pieces of equipment that can be used for weighted step ups, box jumps, incline (or decline) push-ups, and Bulgarian split squats (just to name a few).

What I love most about this DIY plyo box is that you can get three heights from the same box, so you can adjust the box as you progress in your fitness or adjust the heights depending on the exercise you’re doing that day.

Homemade Dumbbells

Dumbbells are probably one of the most pieces of equipment you can have in your home gym. While there are plenty of great workouts that only require bodyweight movements like push-ups, squats and sit-ups, dumbbells are a great way to add additional resistance training and take your workouts up a notch.

Since dumbbells are such a staple in gyms, I find they’re pretty well priced these days; I’ve even seen some lighter weighted varieties at my local under $5 store! With that said, you can still make your own for relatively cheap! I’ve seen everything from PVC pipes or old milk jugs filled with sand. Once while traveling, I used unopened water jugs at dumbbells; it made for a great workout.
