5. Use The Sun
Install solar panels on your roof to take advantage of the power of the sun. Or, if you live in an apartment or rent your house, place a single cell outside a window and use it to charge your cellphone.
6. Get Creative
Repurpose old items to make art. Old bottles can be painted and turned into a wind chime, and cardboard boxes can be made into a puppet theater for kids. Repurposing saves items from collecting in landfills.
7. Don’t Buy What You Can Make
Make your own sandwich bags out of beeswax cloth; make all-purpose cleaner from lemon juice, vinegar and baking soda; and make your own holiday and birthday cards. Making items as-needed uses less energy than mass-producing items for purchase.
8. Install Aerators
Install aerators on your faucets to use up to 77-percent less water. Conserve resources and save money at the same time.
