Isn’t this candy stripe blanket just gorgeous? I love highly textured patterns in crochet, and this afghan is an easy way to achieve that look. The only two stitches you need to know are single crochet and double crochet. That’s it! Plus, by using chunky yarn like they do in the video, this project will work up quickly and you’ll be done in no time.

Of course, you can use any kind of yarn you want, but the chunkier the yarn, the more pronounced the texture will be. The great thing about this pattern is that you can easily adjust to whatever size you want. All you need to do to start out is chain an even number. So you really can make this whatever size you want.

After your foundation row, turn your work and crochet a row of double crochets. Row 3 is where the beautiful texture comes into play. You’ll do a row of single crochets, but instead of working into the top “v” of the stitch, you’ll work into the post. First, work into the back post, and then the front post. Keep alternating front and back post till you get to the end of the row.

Don’t worry if you’ve never stitched into the post before, it really is quite easy once you get the hang of it. Watch the video below to see how it’s done!
